Financial Inclusion : Data

The lack of quality data to regularly map access, quality and usage of financial services and literacy has been a significant barrier for Papua New Guinea. It has meant that the successes and challenges of policy and investment interventions in financial inclusion were unknown.

A key objective of the National Financial Inclusion & Financial Literacy Strategy 2014-2015 was to improve data collection and analysis. CEFI has begun a formal data collection process to better manage, use and share valuable, relevant financial inclusion statistics. We do this with assistance from the Bank of Papua New Guinea, Pacific Financial Inclusion Program and the Data Measurement & Monitoring Working Group.

Our aim is to drive PNG financial institutions and other stakeholders to consistently report quarterly financial inclusion information for analysis. This analysis can then inform business and policy decision-making.
